A$AP Rocky’s potential takeover of Tranmere Rovers is back on after the rapper was found not guilty of two counts of assault.

Last October, it was claimed that the musician was part of a consortium who are keen on purchasing the League Two club. Tranmere’s current owner Mark Palios is looking to sell, but a potential deal was halted by ongoing legal proceedings against Rocky.

Rocky, who is in a romantic relationship with singer Rihanna, was found not guilty of shooting a former friend after an altercation in Hollywood in 2021 as he avoided a possible decades-long prison sentence.

A Los Angeles jury acquitted him on Tuesday of two felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

The trial began on January 24 after Rocky, real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers, turned down a plea offer before proceedings, insisting he was innocent. If found guilty, Rocky could have faced up to 24 years in prison.

Following the not guilty verdict, Sky Sports have reported that the takeover has moved a ‘step closer’ and remains on course to be completed in time for the new prospective owners to have time to prepare for next season.

It’s believed the consortium is looking to purchase over an 80 per cent stake in the club, worth around £15million.

While Indonesian investors, Santini Group, are set to keep their minority stake and remain at Prenton Park.

Football fans joked he will have wished he was found guilty on social media: “Poor lad probably wishes he was found guilty now!”
