Jimmy Calderwood’s son stormed out of the football legend’s funeral after a family feud boiled over that started all the way back in 2015
The bitter family feud that caused Jimmy Calderwood’s son to storm out of his funeral started when his daughter discovered he had a secret mistress, according to reports.
Former Birmingham City midfielder Calderwood, 69, died in January after a lengthy battle with illness and his funeral took place on Tuesday (February 18). The ex-Dunfermline Athletic, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Ross County manager’s friends, families and colleagues gathered at Shiedhall and Drumoyne United Free Church of Scotland.
However, Calderwood’s son, Scott, stood up and walked out during the crematorium service amidst a row with Jimmy’s partner Yvonne Buchanan.
Calderwood’s affair with Yvonne Buchanan was exposed when his daughter Nikki found raunchy messages on his phone in 2015, according to the Daily Mail.
The legendary manager would split with his wife, Sue, and spent the final years of his life with Yvonne.
Scott claimed his family was disrespected by the service while Sue stayed away from Tuesday’s crematorium service.
“The service barely mentioned any of our family,” Scott told the Daily Record. What happened yesterday had been brewing with Yvonne for years as my dad’s illness got worse.
“We couldn’t just stand there and be disrespected like that. My dad wouldn’t have stood for that sort of thing so I couldn’t either.
“It wasn’t just the disrespect for my mum, it was for all of my family who they just tried to whitewash out of his life. I couldn’t just stand there and be a spectator at my own dad’s funeral and act like I barely knew the man.”
The feud had started with the affair, with a source telling the Daily Mail at the time: “They had suspected something was going on because he had been acting strangely for a while.
“He was very protective over his mobile. He would take it with him into the bathroom and go out for walks on his own. But Jimmy was finally caught when his daughter Nikki grabbed his phone and checked it out.
“She was disgusted when she discovered a series of messages between him and this woman Yvonne… Most of the texts are thought to have been sexual chat or the pair organising meetings in hotels.
“Why would he be going to a hotel with another woman? I think we all know the answer to that.”
The report adds Calderwood tried to patch things up with Sue, but would continue seeing Yvonne. Calderwood’s children rallied around their mum, after he reportedly left his family’s five-bedroom home in Dunfermline with Yvonne.
Speaking at the funeral, Yvonne said: “I’ve lost the love of my life to a very cruel disease.”
