Arsenal fans were savagely reminded of their Premier League title flops by West Ham fans at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta looks to have once again let a potential Premier League title winning season slip away as his Arsenal squad lost 1-0 to West Ham in north London. A first-half goal was all that the Irons needed to take the victory.

Last season, Arsenal came second, losing the title to Manchester City by two points. The season before that was the exact same situation, although the gap was five points that year. Now, it looks like Arsenal are set to finish runners-up once again, this time to Liverpool, who boast an eight-point lead.

The travelling West Ham support made sure that the Gunners fans didn’t forget this as they sang during their victory over their London rivals: “Second again ole ole ole…”

It would have certainly been difficult for Declan Rice to hear from his former club – he was also subjected to taunts of “you should have signed for a big club”.

Rice left the Olympic Stadium for around £105m in a search for further success, but he is yet to find that in regards to silverware with Arsenal.

There is obviously still time in the season for Arsenal to bridge the eight point gap to Liverpool back. But not only would this require Arteta’s squad to start a serious winning streak, but they would also need Liverpool to drop multiple points – and Arne Slot’s side have lost only once in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal’s title hopes are so low now that bookmakers Paddy Power have paid out on Liverpool to win the Premier League. However, if anyone knows how to turn a point deficit around it is Arsenal, as they overhauled a 12-point gap back in 1997/98 against Manchester United, the biggest in Premier League history.

Unfortunately, it’s 2025, and they aren’t quite the same team as they once were.
