From Majorca to Benidorm, Spain is home to some of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations – but how much will a trip actually set you back in 2025? Experts take a look at the costs
Choosing a holiday destination can be a daunting task, especially when you’re on a budget. While some flights may be cheap, the cost of living in the destination might not be.
Conversely, an expensive flight could lead to a destination where accommodation and dining are quite affordable. With this in mind, Mirror Travel experts have calculated the actual cost of a holiday in some of Spain’s most popular destinations. The following prices are based on a holiday from Monday, August 11, to Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Majorca is known for its affordable sun, sea, sand and fun, but how good is the value really?
Majorca
Return flights to this sunny paradise for the specified dates start from £122 from Edinburgh, £127 from London, and £136 from Manchester. As for accommodation, the cheapest we found for the August dates is at Sa Fita Backpackers – Albergue Juvenil, reports the Mirror.
The price would be £175 total, for a single bed in a mixed 10-bed dorm. The hostel is approximately 14.9 miles from Palma Airport and the beach is just under five miles away.
Alternatively, you could opt for a stay at the popular Eques Petit Resort, which boasts Cala Petita Beach just 300 metres away and Cala Gran Beach a mere 700 metres from the property. Palma de Mallorca Airport is 60 km away, and the resort offers a paid airport shuttle service.
For dates in August, a stay will set you back £1,555 for two guests. Nearby bar, Yate’s, offers a bottle of Heineken for €3.90 (£3.20) or 50cl of Estrella Damm for €4.50 (£3.73).
Barcelona
Barcelona has been facing protests against overtourism recently, as locals are fed up with the rising cost of everyday essentials. But what does it cost the average tourist?
Flights to Barcelona between August 11 and 17 are priced at £79 from Nottingham, £114 from Bristol and £121 from London.
The city offers a wide range of accommodation options, including Airbnbs which are set to be banned in 2027. One hotel, Ciutat Vella, is centrally located and a room for the August dates costs £784 for a child and an adult.
Also centrally located is Balmes Private Rooms, only 500 metres from Passeig de Gracia. All guest rooms in the hostel come equipped with a kettle.
For the August dates, it would cost £338. The city also boasts a vibrant nightlife, so you won’t be short of bars.
One destination is Ølgod Brewpub, where you can get a table with five types of beer of your choice for €15 (£12.44), equalling €3 per beer (£2.49). Non-beer fans can also grab a glass of wine for €4 (£3.32).
Tenerife
Tenerife is often seen as a family-friendly hotspot, but can it still be done on a budget?
Flights to Tenerife for a holiday between August 11 and 17 are priced at £195 from Edinburgh, £209 from Glasgow and £257 from Bristol. If you’re really watching the pennies, there are some bargain accommodation options in Tenerife.
For instance, Las Eras Nest Hostel will set you back just £97, boasting an outdoor pool, garden, private beach area and terrace. It’s also a mere 100 metres from Las Carretas Beach and Tenerife South Airport is only 15.5 miles away.
Alternatively, you could opt for the charming Hotel Marquesa, built in 1712 and offering breathtaking views of Mount Teide. Jardín Beach is just 700 metres away and the hotel is surrounded by a variety of restaurants and bars.
A week’s stay would cost £307 per adult, with breakfast thrown in. The island also offers a wealth of options for dining out and grabbing a drink.
For example, at Elvis Bar you can get two bottles of San Miguel for €5 (£4.14) or a pint of lager for €2 (£1.65). Benidorm has been a magnet for partygoers for years, but is it a cheap getaway or one that will empty your wallet?
Benidorm
To reach Benidorm, you’ll need to fly to Alicante Airport, then take a 40-minute drive or an hour and 15-minute bus ride to Benidorm.
Flights are priced at £121 from Glasgow, £132 from Bristol and £145 from Manchester.
When it comes to lodging, Hotel Molí Beach in the Old Town is a mere 400 metres from Levante Beach and 500 metres from Mal Pas Beach. It’ll set you back £382 for a single bed and is conveniently located within 100 metres of the city centre.
If you’re after something a bit more posh, consider staying at Hotel Caballo de Oro. Situated 500 metres from Levante Beach, this hotel boasts a shared swimming pool, sun terrace and nightclub.
It’s also a short 700-metre stroll from Benidorm old town. A single room including breakfast will cost you £499.
Benidorm is famed for its vibrant nightlife, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to bars. The Tiki Beach Bar, nestled on the seafront in the town, offers five bottles of Heineken, Sol, Corona, San Miguel, Budweiser or Desperados for €16 (£13.23), which works out at €3.20 (£2.64) per bottle.
In conclusion, travelling during peak season can be pricey. While solo travel during these months can be budget-friendly, the costs of flights and hotel stays at these destinations can quickly add up.
The silver lining? Your drinks will likely be cheaper than back in the UK.
