Fire crews raced to the Overgate Centre in Dundee today (Wednesday, February 26) following reports that an electrical substation had exploded leaving ‘debris everywhere’
A sudden explosion has caused part of a building to collapse near the bustling Overgate Shopping Centre in Dundee, sparking chaos and leaving debris scattered.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Wednesday, February 26, after an electrical substation reportedly blew up. Firefighters are currently tackling the aftermath. Shocked onlookers described the scene as one with “debris everywhere” following the partial collapse of a nearby building’s wall. The Overgate centre has told the Daily Record that the electrical substation was not on the shopping centre’s property, and the building was not affected.
Although the wall of one of the buildings behind the centre has partially collapsed, it is not yet known if anyone was injured as a result of the incident.
Commenting on the occurrence, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated: “We got a call at 10.41am reporting an explosion at a substation at the Overgate Centre.
“We have sent two appliances from Blackness Road. They remain at the scene.
