The greatest show on turf gets underway on March 11 and you can stay up to date with the latest news from Cheltenham with the Daily Star
The loudest roar in sport will herald the start of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday March 11. When the tapes go up for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, it will kick-start four days of brilliant sport that will see the best jumps horses from Britain and Ireland go into battle. And the history books could be rewritten if the gorgeous Galopin Des Champs wins the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the final day of the meeting for the third year running.
He would become the fifth horse to achieve such a feat following Golden Miller, Cottage Rake, Arkle and, most recently, Best Mate. His trainer Willie Mullins has trained an unrivalled 103 Cheltenham Festival winners and he once again sends a mighty battalion of thoroughbreds across the Irish Sea to Prestbury Park.Fellow Irish trainers Gavin Cromwell and Gordon Elliott also field strong teams while the brilliant Rachael Blackmore will attempt to boost her enviable record of winning rides at the Festival. But can the home challenge really put it up to the Irish who have dominated recent Cheltenham festivals?
There is a feeling that British horses can enjoy a resurgence this year. Constitution Hill will be odds-on in the Champion Hurdle and will attempt to regain his crown while both Paul Nicholls, Dan Skelton and James Owen saddle well-fancied horses who could do the business.
