A woman who died on board a ferry on her way to her father-in-law’s funeral has been named.

The grim discovery of the body of Mary Cash, 39, in one of the ferry’s toilets sparked a mass brawl between a group of people on board, forcing the ship’s captain to issue an emergency call to authorities to meet the boat as it arrived in Ireland.

Armed gardaí (Irish police) were called to the scene as the Stena Line ferry arrived at Rosslare Port in Wexford. Police interviewed ferry passengers and a man, 40, was arrested but he has since been released without charge after being quizzed by cops.

Investigators are not looking for anyone else in relation to her death, which is now being treated as a “personal tragedy” after a post-mortem ruled out foul play, reports Mirror.

Mary, believed to have several children, was on board the ferry with her husband Ned and other relatives. They were taking the remains of her father-in-law, Martin Cash, back to Ireland for his funeral.

Martin, 75, died at his home in North London earlier this month and it was this wish to be buried in his native Ireland.

A service was held at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Edgeware, North London, on Monday before his body was taken back to his home.
