Crystal Palace star receives oxygen for sickening head harm after ‘beyond horrific’ sort out

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta was stretchered off after receiving significant medical attention after being kicked in the head by the Millwall goalkeeper in their FA Cup clash.

The Palace striker went down in a pile after Millwall keeper Liam Roberts came rushing out of his goal attempting to clear a bouncing ball at Mateta’s head height.

Roberts’ boot crashed into Mateta’s head, leaving the Frenchman stricken on the floor and requiring urgent medical attention. After a delay of several minutes, Mateta was carried off on a stretcher with oxygen.

Referee Michael Oliver did not initially send Roberts off as play continued for a short while. But VAR intervened and Oliver overturned his decision to show Roberts a straight red card after being sent to the screen.
