A total of 20 bags containing four-sided versions of the famously triangular snack were hidden on the shelves of a store in Hertfordshire, to the delight of some customers

Doritos turns iconic triangle chip into a square
Snack enthusiasts formed a queue outside a supermarket, hoping to bag up to £10,000 by discovering special packs of square-shaped Doritos. The contest involved 20 bags filled with four-sided versions of the traditionally triangular snack hidden among regular stock.
A Tesco Extra in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, saw queues forming after the first winning pack’s location was hinted at with a clue. This follows Doritos’ announcement that they’re launching a square version of their iconic triangular chip – a first in the brand’s history to celebrate their partnership with A Minecraft Movie.
Choon Yeoh from Greater London eventually found the £10,000 prize. He plans to use his winnings for a family holiday to China with his mum.
The introduction of the square chip came after weeks of speculation fuelled by a mysterious ad campaign hinting at the new shape with the tagline ‘The shape of things to come’.
Other brands known for their unique shapes joined in on the fun, with Krispy Kreme sharing a picture of a square doughnut and Walkers Squares cheekily declaring, ‘The shape of things already’.
A Doritos spokesperson, who revealed that more clues about the location of additional winning packs will be posted on their Instagram next week, said: “We heard the debate and buzz that changing our iconic triangle chips square caused, and we’re here to reassure everyone that this shapeshift comes with huge prizes. Lucky shoppers could find themselves winning up to £10,000 if they find a special pack of 180g Chilli Heatwave Doritos containing rare square Doritos.”
