Arsenal were lucky not to go down against PSV

Arsenal took the lead in their Champions League clash with PSV, moments after the Dutch side had a golden opportunity.

Rival fans moaned the chance was “harder to miss” as Ismael Saibari slammed the ball across the crossbar after a lovely cross from Ivan Perisic.

“What a miss. It is a sitter from Ismael Saibari. They work it brilliantly. Ivan Perisic with the forward run and David Raya made a mess of it at the near post,” Chris Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“An open goal! Saibari crashes it against the crossbar. Arsenal get away with one!”

And fans couldn’t help but agree: “That’s a big let off. A reminder to focus now,” one fan said. While a second replied: “How did we not concede?”

Jurrien Timber went up the other end and scored

“PSV can’t be hitting the crossbar on an empty goal when my life depends on this match,” a third shared. And another added: “How are PSV not ahead there? That ball just needed simple placement with the inside of the foot. Just guide the ball into the net, not a lethal strike…”

And Arsenal responded to the chance by going up the other end of the pitch and scoring.

“Arsenal might have been fortunate at one end but a minute later it is brilliant play at the other,” Alan Shearer said on Amazon Prime.

“Declan Rice dinks a beautiful little ball to the far post and he has to hope someone is going to get on the end of it and that someone was Jurrien Timber. What a header.”
