King Charles III has revealed a strange new video, leading to bizarre suggestions the monarch might be up to something whacky, or even taking over the royal podcast reigns from Meghan Markle.

In a social media post, the Royal Family’s social media account released a video of a military band playing the reggae classic ‘Could You Be Loved’ by Bob Marley and the Wailers. The soundtrack to the video then switches to the original studio version and shows his majesty taking a seat in front of a sign that lights up, reading “on air”.

The screen then fades to black and reveals the words “coming soon”. Quite what is coming soon is unclear as the royal teases offered no more information than that, but people in the comments were quick to acknowledge that they were excited anyway.

“Oh really? Can’t wait tbh,” one person wrote on Instagram. On X, formerly Twitter, one suer said: “Omg what’s happening… I love the intrigue.”

Daily Express senior political correspondent Christian Calgie joked that the King is starting a podcast called “The Rest Is Monarchy”.

If this is the case, the Daily Star also has some suggestions of its own. Perhaps, the ‘Orf Menu podcast’,‘The Diary Of A CIII’, or even ‘Pod Save the King’.

Further information is expected soon(Image: theroyalfamily/Instagram)

Suggestions on social media are currently rife with excitement. One cheeky X user said the King could be helping the next UK Eurovision entry.

But most of the suggestions seem to think it could in fact be an all new podcast, following in the footsteps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s own contribution to the online artform.

In 2023, Meghan and Harry wrapped up their Archetypes podcast, with the duo and Spotify confirming their partnership had ended. They maintained that the decision was “mutual” and emphasized they were “proud of the series we made together.”

Post-Spotify era, Meghan inked a fresh agreement with Lemonada for an intriguing yet mysterious “dynamic new podcast.” This deal was publicly shared last February, though precise details about Meghan’s latest venture remain under wraps.

In further reactions to the video, some pointed to the choice of the reggae tune ahead of the annual Commonwealth Day service next week. Both the King and the Princess of Wales missed the key event in the royal calendar last year after being diagnosed with cancer.

Charles, who is Head of the Commonwealth, gives an annual address each year to the family of 56 nations, but last year pre-recorded a video message after postponing his public-facing duties for around three months. The princess is still making a gradual return to public duties after confirming she is in remission.

William, Kate, Charles and Camilla will also gather with the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester for the service on Monday in Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace announced. During the service, singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading will perform an arrangement of her well-known hit Love And Affection for the 2,000-strong congregation.
