Mohamed Salah revealed what Arne Slot told his lacklusture Liverpool players during half-time against Southampton as the Reds came from behind to win
Mohamed Salah revealed that Liverpool’s dressing room received a major wake-up call from Arne Slot during half-time against Southampton.
After trailing the Premier League‘s bottom side at half-time, Liverpool came back to secure a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and two penalties from Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool’s second-half comeback stretched their lead over Arsenal to 16 points at the top of the league table, before Arsenal face off against Manchester United on Sunday.
Having watched his side fall behind from the stands, due to his touchline ban, Slot was far from pleased at the break – and he let his players know in no uncertain terms. When asked about Slot’s half-time comments, Salah revealed: “It was a bit of frustration. His head was going for us.
“We were sloppy and slow in the first half. I don’t think we played good today. If you want to win the Champions League or Premier League you have to win these games like that.”
Liverpool capped off a week where they also triumphed over PSG in their Champions League round-of-16 first-leg match in Paris, albeit in very unconvincing circumstances, similar to the Southampton match.
Harvey Elliott was Liverpool’s midweek hero and was called off the bench at half-time to turn the Reds’ fortunes around. Speaking after the game Elliott said: “In my eyes, it’s just my job to come on and influence the game where I can.
“The last two games have been very tough – it is not about me, it’s about the whole team. It was an intense game. Especially with the travel, we only had one day to prepare for this game and hats off to Southampton – they made it tough throughout the whole game.
“We need to keep winning games – it’s as simple as that. It’s about taking it game-by-game and making sure we apply ourselves in the best possible way.”
