If you’re looking for the inside track on where you might be best sticking your hard-earned cash on a little Cheltenham flutter, an AI bot has done all the hard work and picked 15 horses
You can almost hear it now as the Cheltenham roar echoes around the famous track… ‘Misty Riverbank leads, chased by Frosty Summit and Daring Flight, passing Shadow Play down the outside, Alderwood Echo has dropped back a touch as the fans go wild but HERE COMES STORMY BAY, STORMY BAY HAS WON IT’.
From Red Rum to Kauto Star to Galopin Des Champs, there have been some superbly named horses down the years – but have you ever wondered what’s in a name after all?
Well, with the Cheltenham Festival well under way, punters and bookies alike are looking for any edge in the race to pick the winners for the big four races.
And after a shock win for Golden Ace at 25-1 in yesterday’s Champion Hurdle, an AI super computer has been tasked to come up with 15 new names for horses most likely to win a Cheltenham race based on the names of over 250 of the past winners of the four major Cheltenham events, the Gold Cup, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle and Champion Hurdle.
With all the data fed in, the AI bot created 15 of the most-likely names to look out for when scanning the cards for a flutter.
Those 15 fantastic names most likely to win a Cheltenham race, in no particular order, once entered are: Alderwood Echo, Celtic Whirlwind, Gallant Streak, Misty Riverbank, Highland Charm, Shadow Play, Twilight Ember, Stormy Bay, Daring Flight, Golden Horizon, Echoing Whispers, Chasing Shadows, Windswept Glory, Silver Lining and Frosty Summit.
A spokesperson for MyBettingSites.co.uk said: “By using AI, we analysed the names of past Cheltenham winners, identifying patterns to generate the horse names most likely to succeed.
“A horse’s name in racing is more than just a label – it often reflects pedigree, sense of power, or superstition. Many winners have names evoking strength, mythology, or past champions, while fans sometimes favour those linked to racing legends.
“Some believe certain sounds or structures give an edge, while others avoid names tied to past under-performers. In horse racing, as in life, the right name can make all the difference.”
