Laura Barbieri, 47, was hiking up Mount Guglielmo in northern Italy with her boyfriend Maurizio Filini when she lost her balance and fell 160 feet down a ravine in front of him
Tragedy struck as a beaming couple’s last photo emerged just moments before a woman tragically lost her life on a mountain hike.
Laura Barbieri, 47, was mountaineering with her boyfriend Maurizio Filini on Mount Guglielmo when she took a deadly tumble down a ravine plummeting 160 feet to her death.
Paramedics alongside mountain rescue chopper raced to the mountain after Filini called for help. Sadly, Barbieri was pronounced dead at the scene.
Italian media reported that, despite the couple being well equipped and wearing crampons, it is likely she slipped on ice before falling around 1,700 meters down the mountain trail.
Maurizio Filini has released a photo of the couple arm-in-arm by a Monument to the Redeemer statue at the peak of the mountain, a mere hours before the tragedy.
The caption read: “This was our last photo, I will love you forever my Laurina, have a good trip.”
Fans and friends have poured out their sorrow online with touching tributes to Laura, announcing her funeral set for Wednesday in Brescia where the couple resided, reminiscing her zest for the great outdoors and the mountain trails she once joyously trod.
Social media posts revealed her love for climbing and motorbikes, with a particular fondness for her Ducati.
One heartfelt tribute read: “You loved risk, but life is strange: it was just a wrong step on a mountain path that took you away. I know that now, wherever you are, you are looking for something beautiful,”.
Friends of Filini expressed their condolences on his Facebook page. One message said: “Hi Maurizio, I’ve just seen the picture now! .. I’m so sorry, my condolences to you, and a big hug,” while another friend wrote: “Maurizio I have no words.. I totally understand what you’re going through right now. I’m giving you a huge hug.”
