BREAKING Galopin Des Champs loses date with Cheltenham Gold Cup future to Inothewayurthinkin

Galopin Des Champs was beaten in the Cheltenham Gold Cup by Inothewauurthinkin.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse went off as the firm 1/2 favourite, with 13/2 shot Banbridge and eventual 15/2 winner Inothewayurthinkin the closest horses in the market for the £363,999 winners’ prize money race.

Galopin Des Champs was eyeing to become the first horse since Best Mate in the early 2000s to win a hat-trick of Gold Cups, having triumphed in the previous two years as the odds-on favourite in the Cheltenham Festival’s centrepiece race.

The favourite was far from fluid on the first trip round and never truly picked up after he was impacted by the fall of Ahoy Senor eight fences from home.

However, Inothewayurthinkin was a worthy winner. The exciting seven-year-old, trained by Gavin Cromwell and ridden by Mark Walsh, was cruising in behind and went with Galopin Des Champs at the turn for home.

Neck and neck leading up to the final fence, JP McManus’ star landed better and soon pulled away to win by several lengths, with the history-chasing horse no match in the end.
