A jam-packed holiday flight was diverted from Britain to Athens while on its way to Egypt after a woman in her late 40s was “unruly.”

The Wizz Air flight took off from Gatwick to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, with the passenger said to be drinking for most of the flight, according to eyewitnesses. While flight crew tried to calm her down, she was swearing while swapping seats with another passenger.

One passenger, 58-year-old Micheal Hands told MailOnline: “It was absolute bedlam, I’ve never seen anything like it.

“This woman had clearly been drinking all flight and maybe the crew shouldn’t have carried on serving her as it probably led to her kicking off.

“She was sitting behind me and then she moved seat but she wasn’t happy and started arguing with the cabin crew. By this point we were two hours into the flight and somewhere over Greece and she kept saying ‘Call the police, call the police’.”

He added: “To be fair to the crew they did their best but in the end it just got too much and the captain came on the tannoy and said: ‘If the unruly passenger doesn’t return to her seat in two minutes we are making an emergency landing.

“Of course, there was some booing and jeering at the woman, but nothing happened and in the end we landed at Athens and the police came onboard and took her off – much to everyone’s delight.”

Recently, a teenage boy was apprehended by a pilot and passenger after allegedly attempting to bring a gun onto a commercial flight

The 17-year-old was said to have been attempting to smuggle the weapon onto a Jetstar plane at Avalon Airport in Melbourne on Thursday afternoon.

Passenger Barry Clark, who was at the front of the JQ610 flight heading for Sydney, played a key role in subduing the youngster. Speaking to The Project, Mr Clark recalled that the teen was the last person to interact with the flight attendant once everyone had boarded.

He said he heard the boy becoming upset when asked to present paperwork for work he claimed he needed to do. Then, he spotted the barrel.

“In a split second I saw the barrel, but when I saw the complete gun I said, ‘We’re in trouble here’,” he said.

“Then I saw it towards her chest and I thought, ‘Well I’ve got to do something’.”

Mr Clark explained how he stealthily approached the teen from behind and pushed the gun away, saying: “At least if it went off, it would go off on the side of the plane and there was no one there.”
