Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa’s deaths in February have sparked an outpouring of grief with theories circulating about the circumstances surrounding how they were found
A chilling new theory has emerged after Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa’s tragic deaths last month. A long-term friend has shared their insight into the deaths after the official causes were confirmed by authorities.
It’s after the Hollywood after, 95, and his wife, aged 65, were found dead in their Santa Fe home on February 26 alongside one of their dogs under unusual circumstances.
It was later confirmed that Hackman had advanced dementia and severe heart disease while Arakawa died from a rare disease.
Tom Allin, 75, who was friends with Hackman for more than two decades – and was his business partner – said the two were very independent and Arakawa may not have let anyone besides them in the home for months.
He told the Mail Online: “I don’t think she allowed anybody in the house, especially in the last six months. But she was little. If he fell, she would have a hard time lifting him.”
He said because of Gene’s struggles she had been keeping him isolated but that he would have died sooner without her help and care.
“She just really looked after him,” he added, saying she would “do everything” to protect him until he passed away, but imagined she didn’t expect to pass first.
Previously, friends Daniel and Barbara Lenihan told People the couple were homebound due to Hackman’s Alzheimer’s but that they tried to keep busy and were “really close”.
‘They seemed like real-life partners, really, really close to each other, and they were both incredibly kind,” their son said. “They were reserved, but they were real, [and] a lot of fun.”
The peculiar circumstances surrounding the couple’s death prompted an investigation as officials sought to determine what had befallen the Hollywood legend.
It was later confirmed that the couple passed away nearly a week apart, with Gene possibly unaware of his wife’s death due to his Alzheimer’s.
