Newcastle fans have labelled Paul Scholes as ‘arrogant’ and ‘classless’ after his reaction to a suggestion that Eddie Howe deserves a ‘statue’ at the club.
The Magpies secured a historic 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, in which Geordie defender Dan Burn and star striker Alexander Isak were on target.
The victory at Wembley marked the end of Newcastle’s 70-year trophy drought and resulted in Magpies fans partying late into the night to celebrate the occasion.
Now, there are suggestions that Howe is entitled to a statue at the club for his role in the triumph – however Man United legend Scholes brutally shot them down.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, one Newcastle supporter said: ‘I want to ask you… does Eddie Howe deserve a statute?’
Before uttering a response, Scholes cheekily laughed at the Magpies fan. Still grinning, he then replied: ‘You won the League Cup f***ing hell! Everyone tries to get knocked out of that all year!’

The Man United legend dismissed Howe’s achievement of recently winning the Carabao Cup
The Newcastle fan attempted to explain his point multiple times however was spoken over by Scholes and United fan Adam McKola, who was also on the show.
McKola also joked: ‘We’ll start getting the [Erik] Ten Hag one ready!’
It didn’t take long for Scholes to feel the wrath of Newcastle fans on social media, who reacted furiously to a clip of the former United star’s dismissal of the claim.
One Newcastle fan said: ‘That response from Scholes is absolutely rank. Arrogant, out of touch & completely classless.
‘Ending that 70-year wait was always to = an outpour of emotion after decades of disappointment through generations of fans. If Newcastle can’t celebrate that, what is the point?
Another user wrote: ‘What an embarrassing reply. Let Newcastle fans celebrate however they like. If they think Eddie Howe deserves a statue, then he deserves a statue’.
One comment, this time from an Arsenal fan, read: ‘Massive sign of football snobbery. Success at different clubs are not the same.
‘First trophy in six decades, he definitely deserves a statue. Otherwise it means only managers that win titles deserve statues and are doing a great job. That’s not true’.
Newcastle fans did not hold back as they labelled Scholes ‘arrogant’ and ‘classless’
The victory at Wembley saw Newcastle end their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy
Another user said: ‘What an embarrassing reaction. They just don’t understand what this means to us.
‘To Man Utd, Liverpool etc, winning a League Cup is a bi-annual event. To us, it’s the end of seven decades of torment. Success is relative. The pros of all people should recognise that’.
One frustrated fan vented: ‘Scholes will get most of the criticism here which is fair but opposition fans sitting around were also laughing and showing a lack of respect’.
On Sunday, Howe held back tears as he spoke of the emotion he felt after ending Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.
‘Naturally, you end up thinking of the players, the staff, but also the people that aren’t with you,’ he said. ‘Like for me, my mum and family members. You just think of all the hard sacrifices, hard work that they gave you as a child, to give you the opportunity to have a good life.
‘You think that you get help from above and you get support, and I’ve just always had the thought that I want to try and make my family proud. Now, of course, I have three boys, and I want to try and make them proud, too.’
Throughout his illustrious playing career, meanwhile, Scholes won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Champions Leagues.
