A pedestrian has died after being hit by a police car which was rushing to an emergency.
The tragedy happened on Yardley Road in Acocks Green, Birmingham, shortly before 7pm yesterday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where the man, in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead.
A marked West Midlands Police car was responding to a 999 call when the collision happened, the force confirmed.
It said its officers were attending reports of a man carrying a knife in Warwick Road in Acocks Green, Birmingham Live first reported.
Both police officers involved in the crash were not harmed.
In a full statement, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: ‘A man has sadly died after a collision involving a police car and a pedestrian in Birmingham tonight.

‘It happened on Yardley Road, near the junction with Florence Road in Acocks Green, just before 7pm.
‘The pedestrian, a man aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘The marked police vehicle was responding to a 999 call relating to a report of a man carrying knives on Warwick Road in Acocks Green at the time of the collision.
‘The family of the man who died is being supported, and we are liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
‘The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt.
‘Anyone with information, including dashcam or other footage, has been asked to get in touch with us on 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 4726 of 19 March.
‘Other officers attended the report of the man with the knives, but there was no sign of any disorder on arrival.’
