The world was in meltdown five years ago when the Coronavirus pandemic swept to every corner of the globe in an unprecedented outbreak.

Rules brought in to try and limit the spread of COVID-19 were put in place across the UK and live sports events were cancelled as one of the many sacrifices people had to make. Lives were turned upside down through personal loss from the virus to those who struggled mentally and physically during the tough times, often alone.

While people made the ultimate and hardest sacrifices that they desperately had to make, the lockdown rules seemingly didn’t apply to everyone. From those who partied away in Government, to others who found themselves visited by Covid safety officers and police, some incredibly selfish and resentful stories emerged.

Among those were a number of disgraced footballers who flouted the rules. Despite the Premier League and the entire English football pyramid being paused, and seasons even scrapped in the lower reaches, some players just couldn’t adhere to restrictions.

Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at players who broke COVID-19 rules.
