Paul Pogba has been advised not to return to Manchester United or the Premier League as he looks to revive his career.

The 32-year-old is without a club and is free to relaunch his career after his 18-month ban from football ended earlier this month. Pogba was initially suspended for four years after the World Cup winner tested positive for doping, but his ban was reduced to 18 months.

Pogba left Juventus and is currently a free agent, with him linked with a return to Old Trafford. However, the Frenchman has been told not to return to the Premier League and instead join a new club in France or Italy.

That’s according to former England star Chris Waddle, who played for Newcastle and Tottenham before moving to Marseille – where he spent three years, winning three league titles and finishing runner-up in the 1991 European Cup.

Speaking to 10bet, Waddle said: “He’s never really done it in England has he, Paul? He came on the scene and he looked the part, and went to Italy.

“I think that sort of football suits him. A bit slower, it’s not box-to-box, it’s more patient. Weather conditions sometimes dictate the pace abroad. The sun, the heat.

“I think he was more suited to that type of game rather than the hustle bustle of England. For me, France, Marseille would be a good move and obviously the Italian league would be a good move for him. I think he’s best suited to one of those two leagues.”

Pogba has only played for two teams in his senior career – United and Juventus – and the Red Devils have been heavily speculated to move for the midfielder for a third time.

Ruben Amorim’s rebuild at United is set to continue in the summer, and amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s money-saving moves, signing a free agent would appear to be popular with the United board. However, the club’s new recruitment strategy intends to avoid prioritising signing big-name, shirt-selling players.

Pogba has also been linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League or the MLS, with him currently training in Miami as he looks to return to action.
