A couple had no idea of the troubles that lay ahead after splashing out and buying a £18,000 Haven Holidays caravan. After a delightful caravan park holiday in Wales, Daniel and Abigail Crimmins, from Cardiff, decided to take the plunge and purchase their own mobile home.

This decision was made back in 2023, and since then, the two have said it has been an ongoing “nightmare” and one they have regretted ever since. Given the price of the caravan, just shy of 20 grand, the two were expecting a pristine show home, but this couldn’t have been further from it, reports Wales Online.

Daniel initially spotted a caravan he liked, acknowledging it had several interior and exterior issues that needed addressing. These included a torn sofa, bleach stains, a malfunctioning electric heater, the need for new bedding, and bird droppings covering the caravan roof.

Haven told him the work would be completed within a week, pre-handover, and the caravan would be ready to be used by the family straight away Having paid thousands, the couple anticipated a “show home” as promised.

However, upon their return to the caravan park the following week, Daniel was dismayed to find the caravan in the exact same condition.

He said: “When we arrived we could not believe it, there were cobwebs inside, it was still dusty and hadn’t been cleaned at all. The outside was dirty and none of the work was done on the caravan.”

Daniel was soon “devastated” again when he noticed water damage in the living room, kitchen and bedroom with bubbles forming in the ceiling panels.

Daniel said: “At this point we were at breaking point thinking my caravan had leaks on the roof, water damage visible on the panels inside and over time damp and mould would ruin the caravan. This has been going on nearly three years.”

Days before the park was set to reopen on March 1 the couple were preparing to have guests stay at the caravan and so hired a cleaner to deep clean the property beforehand. But again they were left shocked when the cleaner told them she was unable to clean the property due to entire roof panels being missing and insolation hanging from the roof and on the floor.

Daniel said: “For three years all we’ve had is stress. We’ve had one weekend there, it’s been the worst thing I’ve ever done. It should be a nice family holiday home, we should be having fun when we’re there but every time we go down there, there is something we have to moan about because something has been done wrong to our caravan again.”

A spokesperson for Haven said: “We apologise for the delay in completing the initial repairs in 2023, and the disruption caused by the roof leak. In line with our commitment to Mr. and Mrs. Crimmins, all agreed-upon improvements initially raised were addressed within a week of their moving into their holiday home.

“Our top priority is ensuring a brilliant holiday experience, and we appreciate their understanding as we work to resolve the roof leak as quickly as possible.”
