Ruben Amorim is expected to oversee a major overhaul of his struggling Manchester United squad this summer, with up to 10 senior stars set to leave the fallen Premier League giants
Manchester United are set to show the door to a whopping 10 players this summer as boss Ruben Amorim plans a major squad shake-up.
The Red Devils have had a tough start under the ex-Sporting Lisbon gaffer, with the Red Devils slumped in 13th place in the Premier League.
Their only shot at Champions League glory now lies in bagging the Europa League title, while they’re staring down the barrel of a lower-half finish.
With Amorim gunning for a bounce-back next season, he’s eyeing a complete revamp of his team, which he infamously branded “maybe the worst” in the 147-year history of the club.
The Portuguese manager has already hinted cash-strapped United will need to offload players before they can bring in any new faces.
This could see up to 10 current stars being given their marching orders. As per the Manchester Evening News, the execs at United are aiming for double-digit exits during the summer transfer window.
Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are tipped to hang up their boots at the end of this season, while Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen are set to depart once their contracts run out.
In addition, a slew of big names have been put on the transfer list with loanees Marcus Rashford and Antony among those who could be flogged, while Jadon Sancho already has a potential move to Chelsea lined up.
The Blues are obliged to snap up the England winger for £25m, despite having a get-out clause, reports the Mirror.
Casemiro is rumoured to be eyeing the exit door at United, with Saudi Arabian clubs apparently keen on a swoop. Despite clawing his way back into favour, it’s still likely he’ll pop up in the transfer gossip come summertime.
Left-back Tyrell Malacia might also be packing his bags, as PSV Eindhoven could snap him up for keeps. Meanwhile, goalie Altay Bayindir might bid adieu in search of more pitch time between the sticks.
Amorim hasn’t spilled the beans on any potential outgoings yet, but he’s hinted that those given the boot will ‘get it’. Speaking earlier this month, he said: “We can talk about that [departures] at the end [of the season]. We have a lot of games to play.
“But that is clear, and I think that is not a difficult situation because everybody understands that in football; sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on.
“When you are honest with someone, they can take it. In the beginning, it is hard, but they will understand. So I’m quite honest with my players and they already know that sometimes they have to move on at the end of the season.”
