But, if you’re not familiar, you still might be asking what really is a porta potty party? The term heavily entered headlines last week when missing Ukrainian woman Maria Kovalchuk was found ‘dying’ on a Dubai roadside with severe injuries – including a broken spine and ‘slave-like’ marks.
However, the 20-year-old’s horrific reality isn’t necessarily rare. It’s thought that women have been potentially ‘duped’ into disturbing sex acts in return for huge amounts of cash – or the promise of a modelling contract.
Though, at what price to their health – both physical and mental? Here, we take a look at what is a porta potty party and what we know so far about the terrible case of Maria Kovalchuk who is currently fighting for her life.
What is a porta potty party?
You might have thought a ‘porta potty party’ is something that happens when someone has one too many at a festival and has a knees-up in the gross loos.
But, the reality of the porta potty party is much darker, according to reports. It’s a term that is often used to describe the ‘parties’ allegedly hosted by wealthy men based in Dubai.
These apparent gatherings are less of a party and more of an opportunity for men to commit depraved ‘sex’ acts on women, who then receive payment for participating.
So where does the porta potty part come in? It’s claimed some of these deeply sickening acts involve men using women as ‘human toilets’.
According to AOL, women can ‘earn’ around $50,000(£38,000) for having their teeth knocked out, brutally beaten, their hair completely shaven or even hung up by metal hooks.
The more ‘attractive’ the woman, the more money is up for grabs. Some can be paid around $100,000 to be the target of these tortuous and sexually depraved acts.
‘Porta potty party’ started to gain notoriety after a shocking video of a Nigerian schoolgirl’s explicit video with wealthy men in Dubai went viral, according to Vox News.
If the porta potty parties do actually take place, they shine a light on the dark underbelly on the seemingly ‘luxurious’ influencer scene in Dubai. It might not be all designer bags and stunning hotel balcony views after all.
What happened to Maria Kovalchuk?
So what happened in the case of Maria Kovalchuk who is now undergoing life-saving treatment in hospital for her drastic injuries after being found on the side of the road?
She initially travelled to Dubai after being invited to a hotel party by men claiming to be modelling agents. Maria’s family back home then reported her missing after she failed to catch a flight to Thailand.
It would then be 10 days later until Maria was discovered on the side of the road, just about gripping onto life. Dubai authorities have claimed that she fell from a height at a restricted construction zone.
Dubai police released a statement saying: “Dubai Police confirm that the Ukrainian citizen previously reported missing is currently hospitalised, receiving medical care with her family present.
“A comprehensive investigation has revealed that she sustained serious injuries after entering a restricted construction site alone and falling from a height.”
However, others believe that Maria may have fallen victim to being lured into a so-called porta potty party without knowing what she was getting into.
Russian lawyer Katya Gordon alleged that the ‘scandal’ with porta potty parties have been going on for over a ‘year’ and that Maria was found after ‘partying with Arab Sheikhs’.
Lawyer Gordon said: “Model Maria Kovalchuk was found dying on the side of the road in the UAE after a party with Arab sheikhs.
“The scandal with the Porta Potty parties has been raging…for over a year.”
It’s thought that a lot of these parties are kept under wraps and are difficult to enact any justice due to the murky conditions surrounding them, including the ‘adultery’ laws in the UAE .
Maria’s mum shared an update to Ukrainian media, the concerned parent explained: “There is an assumption that she went to a party. But the promoter who organised these parties did not see her.
“She was found in the hospital in serious condition. She has no documents, no phone, nothing. She has undergone three operations.
“And she cannot speak.”
