Chilling CCTV exhibits second knife attacker prowls by way of metropolis after stabbing a stranger outdoors Waitrose

Chilling footage shows the moment a knifeman prowls around a city after randomly stabbing a stranger outside a Waitrose store.

Inam Qureshi, 45, ambushed the victim, in his 50s, from behind while he was enjoying an early morning walk and stabbed him in the leg, arm and head in a horrific attack.

The walker, who had been strolling along Bright Street in Peterborough, was left sprawled out on the pavement bleeding out while the attacker made off at about 6.40am on July 28 last year.

He was left with two stab wounds to his leg, one on his arm and one on his head and was said to have been left with serious blood loss as well as psychological scars.

CCTV shows Qureshi prowling around and discarding the weapon in a bush near Deacon Street, which was later discovered by Police Dog Vinnie.

The victim managed to call for an ambulance, who alerted police, and a search of the area was carried out.

In the meantime, Qureshi made his way towards Cathedral Square via Westgate, where he threw a hot drink over a passerby before he chased the victim down the street and punched him, knocking him to the ground.

This is the moment Quereshi was detained by officers as he left a shop in Lincoln Road

Armed police officers detained Qureshi as he left a shop in Lincoln Road, off North Street.

CCTV shows him acting oddly as he goes into the shop, apparently peering in a nearby car.

During an interview, Qureshi told officers he did not recall anything about that morning but admitted it was him in the footage when shown CCTV.

Qureshi appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on March 7 where he was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after previously pleading guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH).

Detective Constable Maisy Napier, who investigated on behalf of Cambridgeshore Constabulary, said: ‘These were extremely concerning incidents with unprovoked attacks on members of the public that have had devastating effects on the victims and the wider community, especially for the first victim who suffered multiple stab wounds and is still suffering with the psychological effects of the attack.

‘He was going about his own business when he was violently attacked by a stranger.

‘Qureshi’s behaviour was completely unacceptable, and I am pleased this has been reflected in the sentence handed out by the judge.’
