Paul Gascoigne reckons anyone could manage England – including his next door neighbour.

Gazza reckons the chances of England being successful all depend on the players, irrespective of who is in charge of them. The Three Lions legend insists he couldn’t care less that current boss Thomas Tuchel is German.

And Gazza has accused the current crop of international stars of producing rubbish football, including captain and record goalscorer Harry Kane. Gazza, who won 57 caps and is regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, said to Poker Scout: “We’ve had so many foreign managers, you know. But what English manager can we have?

“We’ve just had one, (Lee) Carsley (interim boss), and he didn’t want the job. But it doesn’t make any difference what manager we have. My next door neighbour could be the England manager.

“It’s the players on the pitch who have got to perform. They just keep playing back and forward and sideways. Crap football, I don’t like it. You know, we never look forward. Like Harry Kane, sometimes you see him with the ball at centre half. Doing cross field passes, he shouldn’t be there.”

Tuchel won both his opening games as England manager, albeit far from worthy tests in a 2-0 win against Albania on Friday and a 3-0 victory over Latvia on Monday.

Speaking about the Latvia win, Tuchel was far from happy with his team’s performance in the second-half, saying: “It was not an easy match. We saw a lot of good things, created good chances.

“We needed a free-kick to unlock it. I’m happy with the attitude, energy and desire. We will get there.

“I know Reecey [James] and the quality the boy has is amazing. He has every right to be proud and happy with his performance. He is in excellent shape. He looks sharp, in shape and the quality there can be no doubt.

“The second half we started to slow the game down and made little movement, which makes no sense. But the second goal was better as we showed acceleration from one of our sixes.

“We encourage everyone to have these late accelerations but we struggled a bit until the goal.”
