Home Bargains points pressing warning over Easter toys deemed severe choking threat

Home Bargains has issued a product recall on three Easter toys sold at the retailer over fears they could pose a choking hazard to children – now shoppers are being urged to return the items for a refund

An urgent warning has been issued over some Home Bargains Easter plush toys that pose a potential choking hazard for the little ones. The discount retailer has pulled its Home Bargains Happy Easter Plush Toys 25cm (Pink Rabbit, White Rabbit and Yellow Chick) off the shelves, flagging them as an “asphyxiation risk”.

This is because the limbs of the toy can become easily detached due to the weakness of the seams. As a result, the internal fibrous stuffing material is easily accessible. A child could put the stuffing material in their mouth and choke.

Home Bargains has put out a warning notice stating: “TJ Morris Ltd is recalling the Easter Plush 25cm sold through Home Bargains stores. The product presents a risk of asphyxiation as the fibrous stuffing in the toy is easily accessible due to weakness of the seams.

“A small child may put the filling material in the mouth and choke. If you have bought the toy as detailed above do not use it,” reports Chronicle Live.

Customers are being told to bring the toys back to any Home Bargains shop for a full refund. The store has said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Echoing the urgency, the Office for Product Safety and Standards has also spread the word, commenting: “The product presents a serious risk of asphyxiation due to weak seams enabling access to internal fibrous stuffing material. The product has been recalled from end users.

“The products pose a serious risk of asphyxiation as it’s been found that the toy’s limbs can easily detach due to weak seams. Consequently, the internal fibrous stuffing material becomes readily accessible. A child could potentially reach the stuffing material and put it in their mouth.

“The products fail to meet the standards set by the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The products have been pulled from the market and recalled from customers by Home Bargains.

“Customers who have bought any of the Easter plush toys should cease using them immediately and keep them out of children’s reach. For a full refund, please return the toy to your nearest Home Bargains store. If you need more information, please ask in-store or visit the Home Bargains help centre.
