Exactly what an hour’s new minimal wage will purchase from low-cost jet, Greggs to Bonnie Blue

It’s that time of year where the government decide to bring out the Spring Statement red file and deliver either financial woes or wins for the nation.

And while Chancellor Rachel Reeves has not impressed with government reforms to welfare, due to effect over one million Brits receiving PIP or Universal Credit, there has been some light relief.

In the Spring Budget announced yesterday (26 March), Brits learnt that national minimum wage would be increasing for all age brackets come April.

The changes are as follows:

– National Living Wage (21 and over): £12.21 per hour (up from £11.44)

– 18 to 20 year olds: £10.00 per hour (up from £8.60)

– Under 18: £7.55 per hour (up from £6.40)

– Apprentices: £7.55 per hour (up from £6.40)

This means that Brits should, theoretically, have more pennies in their pockets come April’s pay packet. So, what can you get with an hour’s worth of work on minimum wage?

Well, it turns out if you put in some hard graft for just an hour then £12.21 can get you a fare amount.

And if you’re struggling to think what 60 minutes of the new national minimum wage can buy you then wonder no longer.
