A father-of-four has died days after he was ‘attacked’ outside a Wetherspoon pub.
Darren Tulip, 43, was found with serious injuries outside the Mile Castle pub on Grainger Street, in Newcastle city centre last Thursday evening.
The much-loved dad was rushed to hospital, but tragically died five days later, on Tuesday, ‘surrounded by family’.
Two men in their 20s have been arrested, one on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, the other on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
Both were later released on bail pending further inquiries. Detectives at Northumbria Police said the investigation was continuing.
His devastated family who ‘cared about and loved him’ have paid tribute to the father who ‘loved to party’. They are now fundraising to give him the ‘send off he deserves’.

A police spokesman said: ‘Our investigation into the circumstances of how Darren came to sustain his injuries continues and several lines of enquiry have already been carried out’
Organiser Chloe Louise Tulip said: ‘On March 20, 2025 we got a phone call that would devastate all of our lives, as a lot of people would have seen Darren was involved in a incident that has now sadly lost him his life.
‘He’s left behind his four babies, a devastated girlfriend and a heart broken family as well as so many friends that cared about and loved him.
‘Darren took his last breaths surrounded by people that adored him and grew his wings on Wednesday 25th March 2025.
‘We all know how loud Darren was and how much he loved to party, he’d want the biggest send off with everyone there.
‘We all know funerals aren’t cheap and we know how much everyone loves Darren so even a pound would be appreciated and a massive help to give him the best send off and for his four kids that now have to grow up without their dad because of someone else’s actions.
‘Everyone knows how much Darren loved a drink, so treat him to his final pint and let’s give him the send off he deserves.’
