Joe Thomas regularly gets called Carli in the street thanks to The Inbetweeners.
His character Simon was obsessed with school crush Carli D’Amato, played by Emily Head, on the hit comedy. Fans think it’s hilarious to keep shouting her name at him whenever they see him. Joe told the Daily Star Sunday: “I get called Carli all the time. People shout it at me quite a lot.
“It is a bit annoying. It’s not even my character’s name! At least if people shouted Simon at me it would mean my character had made an impact. But it’s always Carli.” Simon can see one upside in the trend.
He joked: “Obviously, I portrayed Simon’s infatuation with Carli so authentically that people remember it!”
The Inbetweeners, which also starred Blake Harrison, James Buckley and Simon Bird, ran for three series between 2008 and 2010.
It was such a hit it was then revived for two movies.
More than a decade on, Joe still get asked about it by fans all the time.
He said: “People talk to me about the show all the time. I don’t mind though. I quite like speaking about it.”
The Daily Star recently reported that Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas are back together, this time as Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie for Comic Relief.
The two even spoke about a potential Inbetweeners reunion. They also starred together as double glazing salesmen Fitzpatrick and Lavender in BBC Two’s White Gold.
And now they’re back together once again, but this time they’re playing formerly feuding Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in a sketch for Comic Relief.
The pair have transformed into the Gallagher brothers, sporting comically-large eyebrows, a trademark Parka jacket and suitably moody facial expressions.
Speaking to LADbible, the pair joked that an Inbetweeners reunion would top that of Oasis, who will be filling stadiums like London’s Wembley, Manchester’s Heaton Park and Dublin’s Croke Park – and jetting off to Japan, America, South America, and Australia as part of their comeback tour.
James joked: “We’ll see how it goes, I suppose. Maybe we’ll use them, Oasis can be the canaries down the mine and if it works out well for them, then maybe we’ll do the proper reunion, the one that everyone actually wants.”
