Lorenz Ferdinand, son of Man United and England footie icon Rio Ferdinand, has signed up for a stint at seventh-tier squad Havant and Waterlooville on work experience. The 18-year-old lad is making the switch from Brighton and Hove Albion to see out the season.

Ferdinand Jr, who tops the list as Rio’s eldest of five, has had a run with the Seagulls’ under-21s once this year and warmed the bench six times. After being a regular in the under-18s last season, he’s now diving into his first taste of senior football as Havant and Waterlooville main goalie Ben Dudzinski is out indefinitely due to injury.

The young Ferdinand is in his third year of scholarship with Brighton, and this work experience allows another club take over the reins of his football training. Previously, Ferdinand Jr left the family nest in Kent to chase his football dreams with the Sussex club.

His new team can’t wait to get cracking with their fresh talent. The Southern League Premier Division South side are just three points shy of Dorchester Town and a coveted play-off spot.

The club couldn’t contain their excitement, announcing: “Havant and Waterlooville Football Club are thrilled to announce that, goalkeeper, Lorenz Ferdinand has joined on work experience from Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion for the remainder of the season.”, reports the Mirror.

“Ferdinand, 18, came through the set-up at Brighton and Hove Albion where he now continues to refine his trade in their Under-21’s set-up.

“Lorenz is joining Shaun North’s team for the final stretch as we gear up for the season finale! We’re chuffed to welcome Lorenz to the Hawks and can’t wait to see him on the pitch soon.”

The NEW Havant and Waterlooville recruit is buzzing to be in a new setting to further his development. Ferdinand Jr has already been warmly welcomed by his new teammates and feels right at home.

In 2023, Lorenz inked a contract with agency New Era Global Sports, which led his dad to reflect on his son’s journey. “Our eldest is on his own journey in football,” Ferdinand Snr, he shared on Instagram.
