Newcastle expect more than 200,000 fans to descend on the city on Saturday as they mark their Carabao Cup victory with an open-top bus parade and party on the Town Moor.

The 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley secured the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years and a mass celebration will be held on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Howe and his team will leave St James’ Park at 4.30pm aboard a black-and-white bus, with Ant and Dec accompanying them.

They will journey through the city centre before arriving at the Town Moor, where an open-air event including Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, live singers and a replay of the final will take place.

The Toon heroes will be on stage at around 6.30pm, when they will show off the trophy, and the party will end with a show by shirt sponsor Sela.

‘This will be one of the biggest events we have seen in the city,’ said Karen Kilgour, leader of Newcastle City Council.

‘There will be a number of road closures and we’re asking people to plan ahead.’
