Tesco customers have been urged ‘act now’ as a major Clubcard update is coming in – tomorrow.

Those who shop at the major supermarket and are signed up to the points scheme will expect a change to the Clubcard app at the beginning of next week (Monday March 31).

If you’re wanting to add up your points in time for the summer then bosses have warned members to update the app to the latest version, otherwise it won’t work.

It means you won’t be able to scan the digital version of your card until you update it. Clubcard customers were sent an email, with Tesco explaining: “To increase your data protection and online security, we’re updating our Tesco app to a newer version.

“After March 31, older versions of the app will no longer work. To keep shopping and enjoying all of your Clubcard benefits on your app, make sure you have the latest version before March 31.”

Those needing to update the Clubcard app can do so by going onto the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on the type of phone they have.

However, this should come to no surprise to Tesco shoppers who would have noticed another big change to the Clubcard app just weeks ago.

The major supermarket only just axed the Tesco Pay+ feature from the app at the beginning of March. This means that customers will not be able to pay for their shop and collect Clubcard points with just one swipe at the checkout anymore.

Elsewhere in shopping news, WHSmith has announced that they will be selling the 480 UK highstreets stores to investment firm Modella Capital.

It comes as the stationary brand has been slowly shutting the brick and mortar stores for a number of years. The huge deal is valued at £76million, with the shops set to rebrand as TGJones.

This means WHSmith as we know it will disappear after 233 years from town centres.

The sale does not include the retailer’s travel locations, such as shops in airports and train stations – nor the WHSmith brand. All the approximately 480 stores and 5,000 staff working for the high street businesses will move under Modella Capital’s ownership as part of the deal. The estate – not including the travel locations – are set to rebrand as TGJones, the company revealed.
