A Queensland homeowner is furious after her tenant left her rental property covered in piles of rubbish and infested with maggots.
Landlord Alana Blythe took to TikTok to share clips of the appalling state of the house in Townsville after the tenant recently moved states.
‘They were in here for just under 12 months, the walls were freshly painted, it used to have the most beautiful wooden floors,’ she said in the video.
Footage showed the floor in each room covered in a thick layer of trash, dirt on the walls and food left in the kitchen going mouldy and crawling with maggots.
In one bedroom, a dirty mattress was held up by milk crates, while the bathroom sink looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months and was covered in grime.
The series of clips has racked up hundreds of thousands of views.
Ms Blythe said she was waiting to hear back from her real estate as to why regular inspections weren’t carried out.
‘The renters would ring up and cancel on the day and that kept happening but I was never told,’ she said.

She added that she personally knew the tenants, a family of two adults and three kids, and had rented them the property to allow them get back on their feet.
‘This is what you get (for helping people),’ she said.
Commenters shared their sympathy for the homeowner and concern for the children.
‘I used to clean for state housing in Townsville and all I can say is wow, so sorry you’ve had to deal with this. I’ve never understood how people can do this,’ one person said.
‘I don’t understand how people can leave a house or treat a their home like this. Also how do they afford all new furniture when they leave,’ another agreed.
‘I do not miss cleaning in Townsville. I started my bizz up there 20 years ago and nearly quit because of some of those houses,’ someone else added.
One renter said that: ‘This annoys me because people are out here like myself trying to get a rental for my family and its people like this that ruins it for people like myself’.
‘The saddest part is children lived in this mess,’ added someone else.

Ms Blythe is believed to have been contacted by a local cleaning firm who have helped her and her partner clean up the mess.
