Ruben Amorim is said to want to sign a key player to replace and underperforming flop and it appears the Red Devils are already making good progress
Ruben Amorim’s job to overhaul Manchester United in the summer transfer window appears to have already begun.
The Portuguese boss has been tasked with returning the Red Devils to the top echelons of English and European football, but that path has proved to be longer than first anticipated.
Amorim’s summer transfer work won’t just be buying players to suit his system, but also correcting the wrongs of previous managers. And one of the main targets appears to be replacing an expensive Erik ten Hag flop.
Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Manchester United transfer news.
Mike Maignan
Ruben Amorim is previously reported to have made his position clear that United need a new goalkeeper in the summer, and it appears the Red Devils aren’t hanging about.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have ‘taken a giant step in signing’ AC Milan and France keeper Mike Maignan. The 29-year-old is said to have become the club’s ‘top priority for strengthening’ the goalkeeper position.
Current No.1 Andre Onana is said to have found it hard to impress Amorim with the amount of costly mistakes he has made in recent months.
Maignan’s future is reportedly ‘still undecided’ but ‘everything points’ to him being one of the key players to feature in the summer transfer window.
Antony
United are said to be ‘confident’ that they will receive a £40million fee for Antony in the summer.
The Brazilian has been impressing out on loan at Real Betis since heading to La Liga in January, proving there is some remnants of a player that United paid Ajax £82m for in September 2022.
According to The i Paper, Antony’s performances have ‘alerted potential suitors’, including Atletico Madrid and several unnamed Italian clubs.
Betis have made it public they want to keep Antony, but would seemingly financially struggle to afford such a fee, seeing Isco joke: “We need to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year”.
Xavi Simons
RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons could be on the move in the summer as he reportedly eyes a new challenge at the end of the season.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that the 21-year-old could be vying for a move and the long-term United target could be available for a fee between £58m-£62m.
However, United aren’t alone, with a number of Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all interested.
