TikToker, Becky’s Bazaar shared a video of the haul she found inside a suitcase that was left unclaimed at Heathrow Airport to see if it was worth what she paid for it
A thrifty TikTok influencer forked out £80 for an abandoned suitcase to see if its contents would land her a tidy profit.
Content creator and charity shop queen, Becky’s Bazaar snapped up the case which had been left unclaimed at Heathrow Airport and was sold on through a company called Undelivrd. She goes through the haul in a video that attracted 14.8m views as well as thousands of shares and comments.
She says: “I bought somebody’s lost luggage from London Heathrow Airport and here’s what rocked up at my door. It cost me a grand total of £80 so I thought I’d open it on camera and we can decide if it’s worth it.
“Ok so I started by taking off this black wrapping to reveal this blue Delsey suitcase.
“These go for about £200 brand new so that’s a pretty good start.
“Now it’s time to whack it open. I was actually super nervous. I had to cut off this tag to get inside…”
She opens the case to reveal a mountain of clothes adding: “It’s definitely a woman’s suitcase.”
Showing a few handbags to the camera, she goes through them and adds: “Things got very interesting.”
Part two of the video shows more of the haul which includes dresses with tags on and used make up items. There was also some anti-itch cream, a Tommy Hilfiger coat and some vintage Lee jeans.
She “got excited” when she stumbled across a Guess handbag, only to discover it was fake.
The “interesting” item she found was a meal receipt from a restaurant in New York.
Becky admits she’s not sure what she thinks of her haul, adding: “It’s a little strange there’s no socks or shoes or other things you’d need for a holiday.”
“To truly test it out, I’ve gone ahead and ordered another suitcase which has just arrived.
Influencer Becky, promises “your daily dose of thrifty content” on her TikTok account which has over 400k followers.
The video had a mixed reaction from viewers.
One wrote: “This honestly feels like a violation of someone’s privacy.”
Another added: “I’d be absolutely furious if my lost luggage was on sold instead of being given to me.”
“This made me feel so uneasy,” added a third.
While one said: “This makes me angry because the amount of times I begged them (the airport) to help me find my stuff and they are off selling it to random ppl (sic). Lost my pearls from my late grandfather and will never get them back.”
But many people were more lighthearted in their responses.
“Imagine buying a lost suitcase that contained all the dirty laundry,” joked one.
“What happens if owner sees it on here? Genuine question,” asked another.
While several others just wanted to know how they can buy used cases too.
Becky directs people to the Undelivrd website which states: “Ever wondered what happens to abandoned and lost luggage?
“While most people are reunited with their belongings, sometimes people don’t claim them.
“And now there’s a sustainable and economical way of dealing with the lost luggage. The airport auctions them off to give the abandoned cases and the items inside a new ‘forever home’.
“Personal details are removed from the luggage before they’re sent to us, but apart from that everything is left as is, and as you can probably expect, the luggage is usually full to the brim with clothes, souvenirs and random items, sometimes worth thousands.
“The size and brand of the suitcase you’ll receive will be random.”
Explaining what’s inside, the website adds: “Every suitcase is sold as received, a mix of designer clothes, quirky gifts, and sometimes, gadgets. The possibilities are as varied as the global travelers who once packed them.”
Under the heading: “The Excitement of Exploration,” it adds: “With luggage unclaimed from one of the world’s busiest airports, you’re not just getting a box of items, you’re getting stories from across the globe. Who knows what tales these belongings could tell?”
The disclaimer states: “The cases are not checked by Undelivrd or the auction house and we are not responsible for what is found inside.
“Please bear in mind that if a person loses their luggage on the way back from holiday, there’s likely to be worn clothing inside. Whereas if it was lost on the way out, everything will likely be as new.”
