Al-Riyadh took on Damac in a mid-table clash at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, but the home side were this time greeted by just 89 people in the 22,188 capacity stadium
The Saudi Pro League attendance figures have hit a tragic new low as less than 100 fans showed up for a match.
Al-Riyadh took on Damac in a mid-table clash at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Saudi Arabia, at 3.15pm on Saturday. The home side, who have struggled with dwindling crowd numbers, were this time greeted by just 89 people in the 22,188 capacity stadium. What’s more there was little encouragement for those that did attend to come back again, as they witnessed a goalless draw.
The teams sitting 9th and 12th in the table managed to squeeze off seven shots on goal between them over the 90 minutes.
And the one person who was less busy than the goalies, was the ref, Abdullah Saleh Al-Harbi, who only dished out three yellow cards.
The attendance at Al-Riyadh pales in comparison to the tens of thousands of fans who turned up to the Kingdom Arena the day before to watch Cristiano Ronaldo bag yet another brace for Al-Nassr, in their 3-1 win over hosts Al-Hilal.
A whopping 25,187 fans witnessed the former Manchester United and Real Madrid legend clinch his 69th and 70th goals in the Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo scored twice in the second half, including a penalty, to guide Al Nassr to their win over Riyadh rivals Al Hilal in the race for the Saudi Pro League title on Friday.
Al Nassr remain in the third place with 54 points but they are now three points behind second-placed Al Hilal and seven off leaders Al Ittihad, who visit Al Ahli on Saturday.
The home team opened the scoring before the interval when Ali Al Hassan curled a shot past goalkeeper Yassin Bono.
Ronaldo doubled the lead just after the break with a precise shot following a pass from Sadio Mané.
Despite a comeback from the reigning champions, off the back of a counter attack, Ronaldo wrapped up the points for Al Nassr with a penalty in the 88th minute.
Meanwhile, Al Riyadh’s next two matches will see them on the road, firstly against Ronaldo’s 3rd place Al Nassr on Saturday, April 12. Then they’ll make the trek to the team sitting directly above them in the league, Steven Gerrard’s old team, Al Ettifaq, on Thursday, April 17.
Finally they will be able to take advantage of their home support again on Wednesday, April 23, when they take on a struggling Al Fateh side.
