Brits listing crimes they need solved essentially the most from Jack the Ripper, JFK to BBC information star

The identity of Jack the Ripper, the murder of Jill Dando and the disappearance of Lord Lucasn are all among the great mysteries curious Brits was to be finally solved

The identity of Jack the Ripper is the mystery most Brits want solved, according to new research.

The murder of Jill Dando, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 and who killed JFK are also high on the list of conundrums we want resolved. A poll of 2,000 adults has revealed the historical and criminal cases that have left people scratching their heads for decades.

Others we would love answers on include what happened to Lord Lucan, the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and who killed the princes in the tower, as well as the killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, the identity of the Zodiac Killer and the murder of Colorado six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey.

A fifth of respondents say they’d even put down their hard-earned cash if it meant solving at least one of these riddles.

Meanwhile a fifth reckon they could crack an unsolved crime and almost a quarter watch a TV show or documentary on the topic at least once a week.

Disappearance cases were cited as the most popular type of mystery for 42%, followed by cold case murders (37%) and serial killers (37%).

While 34% enjoy historical mysteries due to their curiosity, the complexity of the case intrigues 36% and the historical significance 31%.

Voted as the most intriguing crime by those polled, the case of Whitechapel serial killer Jack the Ripper came top for the one they would most like to solve, according to the data from OnePoll.

A spokesperson for Sky History, which commissioned the research to launch its new show Jack The Ripper: Written In Blood, said: “We seem to be fascinated by crimes of the past – especially those that are still a mystery.

“These cases, shrouded in intrigue and unanswered questions, offer a unique glimpse into the darker aspects of history.

“Our research sheds new light on these enigmatic crimes – providing fresh insights and perspectives that will hopefully fascinate and engage audiences.”
