A former Chelsea starlet has revealed how he felt as though he had ‘killed someone in a past life’ due to having an extended run of bad luck with injuries.

The player concerned played with both Declan Rice and Mason Mount while part of the Blues’ academy – during which time he won the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup for Chelsea.

But after being hit with a succession of injury issues, Charlie Wakefield was flew to Barcelona to have bone marrow from both of his hips taken out before it was sent to grow in a laboratory in Italy.

Wakefield then returned to Spain for successful stem cell treatment, as he had 20 million stem cells injected into his hamstring.

He was then granted permission to travel to New York for a break with his girlfriend  before beginning the next stage of his rehabilitation process.

However, he was dealt another setback in shocking circumstances just a day after getting back from his trip.

Speaking to Sport Bible, he said: ‘It all came on top of each other. I flew there and I was only there for like five days and it was quite a long flight there and back.

‘It set something off with my lungs. I landed and the next year day I was on the way to start my rehab at Cobham, and I started getting these chest pains while driving.

‘As I was getting closer to Cobham it was getting worse and worse. I managed to get there and got rushed to hospital with a pneumothorax, which is basically a collapsed lung.

‘They have to inject into your chest to suck out all the blocked air. Since I had mine, I’ve seen it in movies a few times.’

That revelation came after an interview with Goal, in which he recounted that he felt as if he had ‘killed someone in a previous life’ due to being ‘injury prone for two years’.

Fortunately, he would go on to make a return to professional football after signing for Coventry City in 2019.

He then featured regularly in non-league, playing for the likes of Wealdstone, Bromley, Yeovil, Woking and Braintree Town.

But after being released by Braintree Town at the end of last season, he has turned his attentions to a different style of football.

In the new Baller League, Wakefield has been snapped up by the N5 – the team led by Arsenal’s Invincibles Jens Lehmann (pictured), Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg

He has been selected for the new Baller League – a six-a-side competition in the UK featuring names such as KSI, John Terry and Alisha Lehmann.

That saw him snapped up by the N5 – the team led by Arsenal’s Invincibles Jens Lehmann, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg.

Entering matchday three of the competition, the N5 remain winless after two matches having lost their first two games.

They will hope to earn their first victory in the tournament when they take on VZN FC – who are backed by YouTuber TBJZL.
