Wintery weather will hit the UK in a fortnight, bringing freezing temperatures and some snow from 6am on April 19 to 12pm on April 21. Maps have turned icy blue as a result
Weather maps have turned a chilly shade of blue as a 54-hour Arctic onslaught is set to freeze the UK.
WXCharts predicts a cold snap will sweep across Britain in just two weeks, with temperatures plummeting and snow flurries expected from 6am on April 19 to 12pm on April 21.
Scotland’s central to northern regions, including Aberdeen, Inverness, Fort William, Ullapool, and Wick, are gearing up for a snowy start on April 19, while the rest of the UK should prepare for showers throughout the Easter weekend.
The mercury is going to take a nosedive across the nation come April 20 morning. North England, spots like Kendal and Barnard Castle, will shiver at -4C, and central Scotland won’t fare much better at -3C.
The rest of Scotland and north England can expect 0C to -2C, Northern Ireland will hover between 0C and 2C, and Wales will range from -1C to 3C. The Midlands and East Anglia will sit at 0C to 3C, while the south coast will be slightly milder at 1C to 4C, reports the Express.
The Met Office has chimed in, saying: “Most areas will be dry and sunny with light winds at first as high pressure extends across much of the UK.
“However, it will be cloudier and breezier in parts of the far north with some light rain or drizzle at times.”
They added: “Temperatures will be above normal away from windward coasts. A gradual change to a more unsettled weather regime is likely thereafter, with Atlantic frontal systems from the west or showers from the south making inroads across the UK.
“This is expected to herald a wetter period through the middle of April with showers or longer spells of rain at times, which could be heavy and thundery in places.
“Strong winds could develop in some areas, particularly the south and west. Temperatures are likely to return closer to normal.”
Looking ahead, it’s smooth sailing with plenty of sunshine for most, though the far northwest might cop some rain here and there from Friday.
Everyone’s in for a warmer treat, but don’t ditch the duvet just yet – those nights are still a bit parky.
