The perpetrator has been banned from using the shared appliance but not before he decided to put the bizarre item inside the microwave for his lunch and caused an explosion
A man who chose to put a raw steak straight onto the glass plate of his office’s microwave also forced all his colleagues to evacuate due to a mini-explosion he had caused.
Outed by his co-worker u/Equal_Warning_5319 on Reddit, the man has now been banned from using the shared appliance. The user named the 32-year-old man as “Greg” who apparently used to use the microwave as “his personal test kitchen”. The 27-year-old said on Reddit: “It started small – he’d microwave weird things like boiled eggs (which exploded) or sardines (which smelled like the apocalypse). But then [it] escalated.”
He said he walked into the breakroom and found Greg microwaving a “whole raw steak directly on the rotating glass plate” without a cover.
Greg said it was his “signature dish”, but the Reddit user said “the microwave now permanently smells like burned meat and despair.”
But apparently a “soup incident” happened after.
He said: “Greg brought in a thermos full of homemade soup (fine, whatever), but instead of pouring it into a bowl, he microwaved the entire metal thermos.”
A mini explosion then happened, which broke the microwave and forced everyone in the office to evacuate after a fire alarm went off.
The user wrote: “Management got involved, and now Greg is officially banned from [using] the microwave.”
But the user has been told he “snitched” on the perpetrator, but he said: “All I did was explain to our boss why there was a charred thermos carcass inside the microwave.”
The Redditor said a few of his co-workers thought he “should have just let it go, but I feel like I saved us from a much bigger disaster down the road.”
Some commenters were appalled by the man’s cooking choices.
One said: “Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that someone’s ‘signature dish’ is a MICROWAVED STEAK????”
Diane Gottsman, founder and owner of the Protocol School of Texas in San Antonio, told Fox News Digital that food that makes a mess or smells awful “should not be cooked in an office kitchen at all.”
She said: “Cleanliness and common sense dictate that you use a microwave-safe plate and cover. A steak is going to be extremely messy. It’s also disrespectful, not to mention a display of poor judgment to microwave a piece of meat directly on the glass.”
