A Virgin Atlantic flight attendant crashed her car on the way to Heathrow Airport before reporting for duty while four times over the alcohol limit, a court heard. Kathryn Scott was hauled off a plane at the airport after “drinking wine” the night before she was meant to take off.

The cabin crew member is said to have crashed her black Hyundai at a roundabout and had to be driven to work by a member of the public after leaving her car at the scene, Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court was told.

Scott, 44, appeared at court on Tuesday wearing a black jacket and trousers, to deny performing an aviation function when over the alcohol limit on June 12.

After Scott’s crash was reported to the police, she was removed from the plane until officers arrived, the court heard.

She admitted to being in an accident and said she had two glasses of wine eight hours before the flight. A test revealed she had 91 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, more than four times the 20 milligram legal limit for flight attendants in the UK.

The court was told she had been diagnosed with a liver condition, meaning her body may not be able to break down alcohol in the usual way.

Scott also blamed the crash on a fault with her car’s steering, the court heard. The flight attendant, of Ottershaw, Surrey, was bailed to appear at the same court for trial on December 11.

Meanwhile, a mum was escorted off a Ryanair flight by police after she ate Pringles from the plane’s trolley before paying. Ann-Marie Murray was on a flight from Tenerife to Bristol on March 28 when she asked for the crisps, water and a cola costing £7.

The 55-year-old was unable to pay when the airline’s card machine would not accept payment and she had no cash. Three cops arrived and put the housing association worker in the back of their van.

The airline said crew “called ahead for police assistance after a passenger became disruptive”. But Ann-Marie said: “I wasn’t disruptive. There were no raised voices.

“I was doing my best to pay. I tried to tap and pay, but the machine didn’t work. They tried with another machine and when it still didn’t go through I offered to get cash when we landed but they said I couldn’t do that.” Read the full story here.
