The UK is being told to brace itself for a windy Storm Amy battering, which is set to be accompanied by a horrific-looking rainy downpour, as the Met Office issues new weather warnings
The Met Office has issued a swathe of new weather warnings days before Storm Amy is set to hit– as a windy battering is set to hit. Stretching for Wales to the North West, the warnings come into force on Sunday evening, and will last until 24 hours later on Monday.
A new weather report from the experts, with extended warnings, claims that an area of low pressure will bring a prolonged spell of windy weather through Sunday evening and into Monday. Gusts of around 50-60 mph are likely around coasts and hills, with 70-80 mph possible in the most exposed locations, with the windiest conditions expected on Monday morning and moving eastwards as the day progresses.
And with that, they also claimed that it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves, and that there is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs as well as a chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
The wind is also set to be accompanied by a torrential downpour, as the maps from WX Charts show the whole country will be hit with a barrage of rain whether the wind hits them or not.
The Met Office also issued specific advice, stating:
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
