The second round saw one of the biggest upsets in recent history, with Manchester United being knocked out by fourth-tier Grimsby Town. Premier League clubs Sunderland and Leeds also succumbed to lower-league teams, indicating that this year’s competition could be particularly open.

Third round fixtures began last week with Swansea City, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Grimsby all advancing, with the Mariners causing another upset, this time knocking out Sheffield Wednesday.

Action in the third round continues tonight and tomorrow, with Liverpool and Chelsea among the big guns in action, before Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal play on Wednesday.
