Ghost hunter captures moment ‘Ed Gein’s spirit talks to him’

A ghost hunter claims he captured the moment Ed Gein’s spirit talked to him – after the hit Netflix show topped the charts. Lee Steer said he made contact with the notorious serial killer on October 7, days after Charlie Hunnam’s portrayal of him in ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ hit UK screens.

The 38-year-old claims the show has prompted so much debate about the Butcher of Plainfield that it has ‘charged’ his spirit, making him more likely to appear. When Lee conducted an investigation using a jar of soil allegedly scooped up from the body snatcher’s home, he claims Ed’s spirit paid him a visit.

Lee poured a small glass of earth onto a table asking ‘yes or no’ questions while using an electromagnetic meter to measure whether a spirit is present or not. Footage captured by Lee’s girlfriend Sarah Carter shows Lee quizzing the spook and, to his amazement, apparently gets confirmation from the flashing equipment that it is Ed Gein.

He’s then seen asking whether the body snatcher was a ‘good person’ or not to which the machine is seen to flash twice stating that he was not. Lee says the investigation in their haunted museum in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, didn’t scare him at all due to the nature of his profession but admits others might have found it ‘freaky’.

Lee, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, said: “I forgot I had something to do with this serial killer in our museum and watching the series brought it to the forefront of my mind.

“We thought that if the spirit of Ed Gein exists, this will be fuelling him as people all around the world are talking about him. It’s more likely for his spirit to be present because of this. We decided to set up for the livestream.

“We set up REM pods and motion sensors and when we started the live stream we captured an EMF spike straight away around the soil. This means that there was an electromagnetic disturbance and there is a theory that when spirits are about to do something, they admit electromagnetic fields.

“At this time, we weren’t sure if Ed Gein’s spirit was there but we did feel uncomfortable and there was a strange vibe in the end. We got an electromagnetic meter and asked questions. We said flash once for yes and twice for no.

“We straight up said, ‘Is Ed here?’ and it flashed once for yes. We asked the same question a couple of minutes later and it flashed again once for yes.

“We also asked, ‘Is Ed a nice person?’ and it flashed twice to answer no. I never get scared. It would be freaky for others to see it but because we do this daily it actually excites me.

“There’s a theory out there called power of intention so you can manifest something to happen just by thinking of it. Because of the Netflix series out at the moment, there are loads of people talking about it [Ed Gein] and loads of people openly inviting something to come to them unaware.

“It’s definitely making it stronger and if the spirit is real, giving it more energy.”

Born in 1906, Ed was an American murderer who has since inspired the creation of many fictional serial killers seen in films such as Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs.

The 18-rated show ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ aired on Netflix on October 3rd and is the third season of the American crime drama series created by Ryan Murphy.

Lee said he purchased the jar of soil apparently from Ed Gein’s house for £20 through an American antiques dealer in February 2024. As well as Ed’s spirit presenting itself, Lee claims they found black human hair in the soil too.

Lee said: “It got a bit later on into the live stream and some psychics were in the chat and they said they sensed something in the soil.

“This made me very curious so we poured the soil out onto the table and as we poured it onto the table we noticed black hair in it. It could have potentially been human hair.

“I can’t believe that I have this soil. At the time [when I bought it], I did not think Ed Gein would become so popular in this day and age. We are just lucky enough to have a relic from the house.”
