A close confidant of Sarah Ferguson has shed light on the real reason behind the former duchess’s decision not to continue living with her ex-husband, the former Prince Andrew.

On Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had initiated a “formal process” to strip Andrew, who used to be known as Prince Andrew, of his style, titles and honours.

According to the statement, the prince will now be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. The Palace also confirmed that Andrew would be leaving his Royal Lodge residence in Windsor, following his association with the late financier and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The late Queen’s second son, who denies all allegations made against him, will move to accommodation on the King’s private Sandringham estate. However, his ex-wife Sarah, who has shared the 30-room Windsor mansion with the Royal for years, will not be joining him.

Reports suggest that Sarah – who has also been stripped of her duchess title – will sort out her own living arrangements. While many have speculated about the reasoning behind this, a friend of Sarah’s has clarified that the former duchess – who has also faced her own Epstein-related controversies – made the decision herself.

Appearing on Channel 5’s Vanessa programme today, Lizzie Cundy revealed why Sarah would no longer be living with her former husband in just seven words. The Mirror reports she said: “She doesn’t want to live with Andrew.”

Lizzie stated: “Now she (Sarah) wants to draw the line and hopefully move on from this.”

The telly star also pointed out that Sarah feels remorse for some of her past mistakes, including her 2011 apologetic email to Epstein following his release from prison for child sex offences.

In the 2011 email, Sarah described Epstein as her “supreme friend” and apologised for criticising him in a media interview. Her spokesperson explained that the email was only sent out of fear of being sued for defamation.

Speaking on the Channel 5 chat show on Friday, Lizzie said: “I think she’s (Sarah) had a rough ride with it, I’m not saying get the violins out, but it has been tough for her. She’s made the most huge silly mistakes… and no one knows that more than Sarah Ferguson today.”

Sarah has been maintaining a low profile since the scandals surrounding her email to Epstein surfaced just weeks ago. It remains uncertain where she intends to live once she leaves Royal Lodge.
