The identity of the two suspects arrested in the Huntingdon train stabbings have been partially released by police.
A black British male, 32, and a 35-year-old man of Caribbean descent were arrested in relation to the horrifying attack on a rail service which left 10 in hospital. Both were born in the UK.
British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless said “it is a shocking incident”. He added that four of the ten victims hospitalised have been discharged from hospital while two remain in a life threatening condition.
The senior cop added that it was “not appropriate” to say what the “cause” of the stabbings were. The first arrest was made eight minutes after the stabbings were reported.
The “deeply shocking” attack took place on a train after it left Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire at 7.42pm. A man with a large knife is believed to have been shot with a Taser by police after going on a bloody rampage on a high-speed train.
British Transport Police (BTP) said two people have been arrested over the attack which happened on the 6.25pm service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday.
Defence Secretary John Healey described the incident as an “isolated attack” and added that further information on whether it was terror-related will be provided as soon as the Government has it.
Witnesses have spoken of seeing a man with a large knife and passengers hiding in the toilets to escape the rampage, The Times reported. One told the paper there was “blood everywhere” and people were getting “stamped” on by others as they tried to flee.
The witness said: “I heard some people shouting we love (you).” The Sun said another witness described the attack as “like something from a film”, adding: “It was a terrible scene, really violent.”
A man who was travelling on the train has said he saw an “extremely bloodied” victim and that he believes a suspect was tasered.
The eyewitness, called Gavin, told Sky News: “I was in coach G and one of the people that were coming through, I heard them say: ‘They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed’.
