BREAKING UK road lockdown as bomb squad and cops swarm in with locals instructed ‘keep away’

A bomb disposal team and officers have rushed to a road in Oldham following reports of a “suspicious package”.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “Our officers are dealing with a suspicious item found inside an address on Block Lane, Chadderton – there is a cordon in place and people should avoid the area.

“Other emergency services are also in attendance and the EOD are due to attend.”

Police have urged people to avoid the area as they investigate, while a bomb assessment device has been pictured at the scene. The “suspicious” item that sparked the huge response will be assessed.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed two fire engines from Oldham and Chadderton are in attendance on Block Lane currently. Some residents have claimed their homes have been evacuated.
