John Barnes was left red-faced by his own social media post

John Barnes once had to apologise after accidentally sharing an adult image on his social media timeline.

The Liverpool legend uploaded a picture to his Twitter page (now X) of an alleged scathing comment made about US President Donald Trump’s political ability by his own mother. However, his political upload landed him in a spot of bother.

But it wasn’t for overstepping political boundaries, as fans were quick to point out the two-time PFA Players’ Player of the Year had inadvertently included in the screenshot a jaw-dropping image at the bottom of his phone in the photo album.

When one user pointed out the gaffe and urged him to crop the X-rated clip out, the former midfielder, who celebrates his 62nd birthday today, replied: “Don’t know how to do that…

“I’m afraid to press buttons on this phone.. I’m 56 yrs old, so happy to just be able to get one or 2 words out on twitter that people understand!!”

But the 79-time England international, who also played for Watford, Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic during his storied career, soon posted an apology, insisting the original image was sent onto him by a friend.

He wrote: “I have to apologise for any offence caused as I posted a Donald trump picture sent to me by a friend.. on the camera roll under was a video of pornography..

“I wasn’t aware that it was there and apologise once again for any offence caused”.

Not all fans were offended by Barnes’ error, nonetheless, and leapt to his defence on social media. One wrote: “We’ve all done it”.

Another said: “Anyone offended should have a day off. Its funny John, relax. We all walk the tightrope.”

A third posted: “No offense caused lad, its just a bit funny init”. While another fan quipped: “Would be more offended by a picture of Trump”.

Amused fans were left intrigued as to where the original screenshot came from. But when one asked the former England hero who was responsible, he replied: “Not a clue”.

Barnes isn’t the only famous face in the footballing world to have inadvertently outed themselves, after notorious WAG Wanda Nara accidentally leaked a topless picture of herself on her Instagram page.

Former Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi’s ex-wife was enjoying some family time when she shared a snap of her children sitting together with friends drinking and eating.

However, unknown to Wanda, she hadn’t cropped the photo correctly – and a screenshot of her photo exposed her gallery as well as her ample assets.
