The woman who tricked her family and friends into believing she had given birth has confirmed she making a documentary to “get everything out”. Kira Cousins, from Airdrie, Scotland, wore a prosthetic bump for months, claimed she gave birth alone and pretended a plastic doll was her baby in front of her loved-ones.

The 22-year-old was rumbled when a family member discovered Bonnie-Leigh Joyce – the name Kira gave her “daughter” – was a realistic plastic doll. She apologised to her nearest and dearest for faking scans, messages, the “whole birth story” and acting “like a doll was a real baby”.

However, in social media posts after the confession, Kira argued the pregnancy was “not fake” to begin with and that she had “lost it”. Now she is preparing to tell all after she signed a documentary deal with a production company.

She wrote on Instagram: “I can confirm that I have decided that I do want to tell my story in my words and I have signed with the reported production companies to make that happen.

“At the moment I can’t post further details on the documentary, but will post updates when I can. It’s the only way to get everything out.”

The Daily Record previously reported two production companies – Soho Studios Entertainment and Two Rivers Media – were interested in telling Kira’s story.

Alan Clements, Two Rivers Media Managing Director and Executive Producer, said: “It is very early days in the process, but public speculation about the team behind the documentary has prompted us to step forward now. Once we have a platform as a partner, filming will start.

“We are delighted that with the huge international interest around this story, Kira chose us. Both Two Rivers and Soho Studios pride ourselves on bringing remarkable human experiences, told by the people who were at the centre of the action, to the screen.

“We look forward to treating those involved, the issues and this story with the sensitivity they deserve.”

It marks the fifth collaboration between the two firms, which include hits such as Paramount+ series Special Forces: Most Daring Missions narrated by A-lister Tom Hardy and hit Channel 4 series Travels with Agatha Christie and Sir David Suchet.
